Abstract

Description

The digital file consists of three issues of the Tex Talks publication published by the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association. The February 1964 issue is eight pages long and includes such topics as the Broadway entrance fountain; the groundbreaking for the new Central Food Storage Building; the new Kilgore Beef Research Center facility; the Tech Library's growth and importance; the new Center for Economic Education; an addition to the bookstore; Tech's choir to perform at the World's Fair; a banquet for football player David Parks; and the Board of Directors selecting to change the college's name to "Texas Tech University."
The April 1964 issue is four pages long and includes such topics as the dedication of the University Theater; the need for higher enrollment in the Graduate School; the death of the horse Tech Beauty; professor Vincent Luchsinger participating in experiments at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; record undergraduate student enrollment; a rise in teen marriages; and Tech Day celebrations.
The September 1964 issue is eight pages long and includes such topics as the naming of four women's resident halls; decals from the Ex-Students Association; construction of a new dining hall; increase in dormitory usage; faculty changes; a full page photo spread of a typical day for Tech AFROTC Sabre members; W. L. Stangel's donation of his books to the Kilore Beef Cattle Research Center library; electrical engineering research projects; George W. Soash's photo donation to the Southwest Collection; and the problematic number of high school dropouts.
The November 1964 issue is eight pages long and includes such topics as the college seeking schools of medicine and dentistry; the Museum acquiring a steam locomotive; Douglas L. "Dink" Wilson as the newest Masked Rider; improvement of campus phone service; explanation of the great men inscriptions on the Administration Building; success of the "Red Shirt" athlete ineligibility program; and Lt. Governor Preston Smith's address to the faculty.
